Lower Your Sights – To Heighten Your Spring Pleasure
These tiny treasures stand just 2”– 8” tall. They are the earliest of the bearded iris to bloom. In our fields they usually start blooming in late March or early April. Miniature dwarfs thrive in a climate with a definite cold season and are best enjoyed in a rock garden or elevated planting. You’ll want to make it easy to sniff their dainty blossoms – most are very fragrant!
Versatile & Vigorous
These gems of the Spring garden bloom later than MDB and earlier than TB or IB and stand 8”-15” tall. SDBs will form clumps that provide you with wonderful mounds of color and nice cushions of spikey leaves. In Boulder these iris bloom from April into early May.
Bridge the gap, both in size and season, between the Dwarfs and the Tall Beardeds, with Intermediates that stand 16”-28” tall. Bloom time for IBs in Boulder is generally late April to mid May.
Tried and True – Old and New
Most of the iris in this listing are Tall Bearded, with stalks over 28” tall and as high as 40” (there are some Border Bearded (BB) that are 16”-28” tall). The TB bloom time ranges from mid-April in the southern states to late June in the far north and high elevations. In the Boulder/Denver area, TBs bloom from mid May to early June. Most varieties bloom once a year in the spring, although some will rebloom in the summer and fall in warm climates.

The newest member of our feline family is Lisa Slate (she goes by Slate). She’s a lovely grey kitty with big green eyes. She was rescued from Rifle, Colorado and is our main rodent deterrent for our office area. She proved herself the second day on the job. Her duties ease up a bit in the summer, so she has taken on the task of selecting a nice assortment of Intermediate iris for you. Slate is bigger in stature than Shale, so she finds the Intermediate iris at 16”-28” tall more to her liking. Like Shale, she promises a rock solid deal.
